Required Gear

DIT requires all students to have their own dive gear on or by the first day of the fifth week of training (Light Weight Intro). For students who will be purchasing gear, we strongly recommend waiting until arriving at DIT, to ensure you are getting the right equipment.

Estimated Cost of the required dive equipment and other additional supplies is $1800-$2000. NOTE: This estimate is based on packaged deals offered to DIT students by dive shops in Seattle.

Required Gear

  • Dry Suit with Inflation Whip: Must have to pursue requirements for Canadian Certification (CSA Z275.4). We also recommend wrist and ankle seals. If you own a dry suit, you DO NOT need a wet suit for training purposes at DIT.
  • Five Finger Diving Gloves and Hood: Either dry suit or wet suit five finger gloves and a dry suit or a wet suit hood will work.
  • Mask, Snorkel and Fins
  • Gear Bag
  • Snoopy Cap: A snoopy cap is a custom made liner to wear under dive helmets. Because the snaps must be configured to fit different DIT training helmets, we recommend purchasing this through DIT.
  • Safety Harness and Safety Snap Shackle: Must be a minimum five-point harness. Safety shackle will be attached to harness. Note: Can be purchased through DIT.
  • Dive Knife: Stainless Steel, folding, and locking knife.
  • Eye Protection/Safety Glasses (prescription safety glasses acceptable)
  • Weight Belt or Harness w/ Weights: Typically 30-40 pounds of weights.
  • Dive Watch: Water resistant to 200 meters. Must have stop watch function or a rotating bezel. You must be able to see it underwater.
  • Hard Hat: Must be blue ANSI and OSHA approved with standard brim.
  • Safety Boots/Shoes: Topside, steel toed all leather work boots. Note: Steel toed boots are required on campus at all times.
  • Combination Padlock
  • Leather Work Gloves
  • Rubber Gardening Gloves
  • Swim Suit or Shorts: to wear under dry/wet suit
  • Chaffing Boots: Any rubber or leather work boots that are worn over booties while in the water. (For protection of the feet and booties)

Optional Equipment

  • Coveralls: Mechanic style coveralls are worn over the wet suit or dry suit for protection.
  • Wet Suit: We recommend 1/4 "(7mm) "Farmer John" style wet suit. When using a wet suit at DIT, it must include hood, booties, and five finger gloves.
