ASSESSMENTS AND UPGRADES

For commercial divers who wish to earn the international certification or participate in specialized training opportunities, DIT offers assessment services.

Assessment Process
DIT's assessment is a complete and comprehensive review of your commercial diving history against the enabling and terminal objectives covered in the CSA Z275.4 Standards for Commercial Divers. If you are seeking international certification, the Director of Training will note any areas that are incomplete or not in compliance with the DCBC Certification Scheme.

STEP 1
Gather COPIES of the following documentation (no originals please, as we cannot guarantee return of requested documents):

  • Transcript and completion certificates for all formal commercial dive training completed
  • Job history, including type of work accomplished and contact information for employers
  • Dive logs for the last two years, minimum
  • Copies of all current certifications held
  • Copy of your current ADCI diving physical

STEP 2
Call or email the Director of Training for the current cost of the assessment, and to verify the completeness of your package before sending it to DIT. Submit materials to:

Director of Training
Divers Institute of Technology
P.O. Box 70667
Seattle, WA 98107
Send a message

Once your package and payment have been received, please allow three weeks for assessment completion. DIT will keep your documents on file for future auditing by the DCBC.

STEP 3
The Director of Training will call or email you with the results of your initial assessment, including an explanation of any areas in your diving history that are incomplete or not in compliance with the DCBC Certification Scheme, if needed.

Upgrades
If the results of your assessment indicate that further training is required to reach your goals, and you wish to complete your training at DIT, email the Director of Training for cost estimates and schedules. You may be required to complete operational training dives, perform practical procedures or equipment operations, take portions of the commercial diver curriculum, or take written exams to fulfill all requirements.

If you are seeking international certification, at the completion of all requirements, a formal letter will be sent to both you and the Executive Director of the DCBC certifying that you have been assessed and meet all eligibility requirements to the desired level. You can then apply directly to the DCBC for your certification.
